Azerbaijan is a country at the crossroads of South-Eastern Europe and Western Asia, with its capital in Baku. In February 2024 Ilham Aliyev won an early presidential election and secured a fifth term. After an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed near Aktau in December 2024, Aliyev blamed Russia for the disaster. In August 2025 Azerbaijan and Armenia signed an agreement to end hostilities with Trump acting as mediator.
