NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is a military and political alliance of 32 states in North America and Europe.

Joining NATO remains Ukraine's goal: the government has made closer partnership with the Alliance one of its tasks for 2026–2027. At the Ankara summit in July 2026, NATO leaders set aside at least €140 billion in military aid for Ukraine over two years, and under the PURL programme Ukraine receives American weapons paid for by allies. The Ukrainian Navy was for the first time allowed to lead NATO mine countermeasures forces at sea, and the NATO Military Committee planned its first visit to Ukraine in eight years. At the same time, Donald Trump said he was considering a US withdrawal from the Alliance.
