regional centre in northern Ukraine

Chernihiv is a Hero City of Ukraine and the administrative centre of Chernihiv Oblast in the north-east of the country. On 17 April 2024 Russian missiles struck the city, killing 18 people and injuring about 60; homes, a hospital and a university were damaged. In autumn 2025 and spring 2026 strikes on energy facilities left the city without power, and in April 2026 the Chernihiv combined heat and power plant stopped after shelling. More than 6,800 people, including 1,422 children, were evacuated from border districts of the region in autumn 2025.

MykVisti reports on Russian attacks on Chernihiv and the region and on city politics, including the resignation of acting mayor Oleksandr Lomako.
