historical region in south-western Ukraine

Transcarpathia is a historical region in south-western Ukraine, on the north-eastern side of the Carpathian Mountains, home to Zakarpattia Oblast and the city of Mukachevo. In May 2026 Ukraine and Hungary agreed to hold a new round of consultations on the rights of the Hungarian minority in the region.

During the war Transcarpathia has become a destination for relocated businesses: as of November 2024, 282 companies, or 40% of all relocated enterprises in Ukraine, had moved there. The war has reached the region too. On the night of 21 August 2025 a Russian strike hit an enterprise in Mukachevo, and firefighters were still putting out the blaze the next day.

MykVisti covers notable events in Transcarpathia, from Russian strikes to arrests and court cases.
