On the eve of winter, Ukraine is facing unprecedented challenges in the energy sector. In the conditions of war, when Russian strikes cause significant damage to the energy infrastructure, preparing for the heating season becomes a critically important task.

Energy system deficit: in Mykolaiv, the lighting of streets, administrative buildings and parks will be limited until the end of the year.

Planned repairs at NPP power units will help improve the situation with electricity supply in Ukraine in August this year.

Problems with the electricity supply in Ukraine can lead to 20 hours without electricity and heating per day during the winter. Ukrainian power plants require complex and expensive repairs, which can even take years to restore.

Ukraine plans to build up to 1 gigawatt of shunting gas generation by the end of the year. Russian shelling has already destroyed 9 gigawatts of power.

Energy consumption increased against the background of large-scale damage to TPPs and HPPs. Due to this, the deficit in the power system increased.

Even if certain damage to the generation is eliminated, Ukrainians will live with a shortage of electricity for the next two years.

In the evening of May 11, the Ministry of Energy predicts a shortage of electricity, so they are requesting to reduce consumption during the peak hours of 17:00-22:00.

The increase in electricity consumption in Ukraine in the summer is compensated by renewable sources.
