The 79th Separate Air Assault Tаvrian Brigade is a military unit of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stationed in the city of Mykolaiv. The brigade traces its origins back to 1979 when the 40th Separate Air Assault Brigade was formed within the Soviet Army. After Ukraine gained independence, the unit underwent several reorganizations and received its current designation.
Since 2014, the brigade has actively participated in combat operations in eastern Ukraine, notably in the battles for Sloviansk, Savur-Mohyla, Debaltseve, and the defense of Donetsk airport. During Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, the brigade's units were involved in the defense of Mykolaiv and other key areas.
The brigade comprises several battalions, including air assault, artillery, and support units. Personnel are trained according to NATO standards and equipped with modern weaponry.
