Dmytro Marchenko

Dmytro Oleksandrovych Marchenko (born February 25, 1978, Voznesensk, Mykolaiv Oblast) is a Ukrainian military figure, Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is recognized for his key role in organizing the defense of Mykolaiv during Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Career:

• Began service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 1996.
• Participated in peacekeeping missions and the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.
• Headed the Main Directorate for Development and Support of Material Support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Defense of Mykolaiv:
In early 2022, Dmytro Marchenko led defensive operations in Mykolaiv, coordinating the actions of the Armed Forces, territorial defense units, and other forces. Through the combined efforts of thousands of military personnel, the enemy's plans for a rapid advance in southern Ukraine were disrupted.

Resignation from Service:
In November 2024, he announced his resignation from the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to health reasons. In his address, he stated that this was the most difficult decision of his life.
