Mykolaiv region has made it into the top 10 in terms of salary levels, but wage arrears are on the rise

Since the start of this year, residents of the Mykolaiv region have been earning an average of over 24–25 thousand hryvnias a month. At the same time, wage arrears in the region have risen.
This is evidenced by data from the regional statistics office, NikVesti region.
In February, the average wage in the Mykolaiv region stood at almost 25,000 hryvnias. This is 1.4% less than in January, yet the figure allowed the region to rank eighth among all regions of Ukraine in terms of wage levels.
Wage arrears are rising
As of 1 March, the total amount of wage arrears in the region stood at 43.4 million hryvnias. Compared to February, the debt increased by 6.4%.
At the same time, Mykolaiv region’s share of the national wage arrears remains small — 1.2% of all arrears across Ukraine.
Where wages are highest and lowest
Wage levels vary significantly depending on the sector of the economy. In particular, the highest wages are in the supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning — over 46,500 hryvnias. The lowest earnings are in the mining and quarrying sector, where the average wage is just over 10,300 hryvnias.
Who has accumulated the largest debts
The largest wage arrears are concentrated in the following sectors:
- manufacturing — 55.8% of the total debt;
- agriculture, forestry and fisheries — 43.8%;
- other activities — 0.4%.
It should be noted that in January 2026, the average salary of permanent employees in the Mykolaiv region was just over 25,000 hryvnias, whilst wage arrears in the region amounted to 40.8 million hryvnias.
