Buckwheat prices have risen by almost 30%: how prices changed in the Mykolaiv region in April

In April this year, prices in the Mykolaiv region continued to rise. Over the month, consumer prices rose by almost 2%, whilst annual inflation stood at over 9%. The biggest price increases were seen in cereals, transport and fuel, although some food items became cheaper.

This is according to data from the regional statistics office, reports ‘NikVesti’.

The most notable price increase in April was for buckwheat groats — by as much as 27.8%. Passenger rail transport rose by 10.6%, and fuel and lubricants by 7.6%. Prices also rose for sugar (+6%), sunflower oil (+4.4%) and road passenger transport (+4%).

At the same time, some products became cheaper. The biggest price drops were seen in butter — down 9.8%, lard — down 6.5%, eggs — down 5.2%, and frozen fish — down 3.7%.

Price trends throughout the year remain uneven. Following a significant winter price rise in 2026, the growth in vegetable prices slowed: they rose by 12.5% in January, 14.5% in February, 3.9% in March, and just 0.4% in April. Eggs, following a sharp rise last autumn, fell in price again by 5.2% in April.

Bread continues to become more expensive; in April, its price rose by a further 3.9%. Milk, on the other hand, is becoming cheaper: following a 3% fall in February and stability in March, the price fell by a further 2.9% in April. Meat and meat products rose by 2.1% after several months of decline.

Furthermore, the cost of fuel continues to rise in 2026: in March, prices jumped by 11.6%, and in April by a further 7.6%, which is affecting transport costs and the overall inflation rate in the region.

It should be noted that in March, the biggest price rises in the Mykolaiv region were seen in fuel, clothing and certain food products, with the overall rate of price growth reaching its highest level since the start of the year.
