In Mykolaiv, with the funds of an international donor, within the framework of the Freedom Space project, shelters were repaired in two more educational institutions.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych and People's Deputies Oleksandr Haidu and Andrii Bohdanets joined to check their arrangements, «NikVesti» writes.
Basements have been transformed into full-fledged study spaces with proper lighting, ventilation and bathrooms. In order for students to feel comfortable during air raids, the shelters were equipped with a projector, comfortable soft furniture and various board games. Repair of shelters took about three months.
— We installed electricity and sewage in the shelters. There are desks, chairs and poufs for sitting, a projector. Both teachers and students have the opportunity during air alarms to descend into a comfortable, fully equipped shelter and continue the educational process. We are currently finishing 32 shelters across the country, because children are our future and it is important that they feel comfortable during air raids. We receive a lot of requests to help with the arrangement of shelters, but in Mykolaiv we faced the problem of finding a subcontractor to arrange the shelters, — said People's Deputy of Ukraine Andrii Bohdanets within the Freedom Space project.
It is noted that the shelter can accommodate up to 300 schoolchildren in one of the Mykolaiv educational institutions, and up to 500 students in the other.
Mykolaiv City Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych noted that the authorities are preparing the city for the possibility of opening schools, so they are setting up the simplest shelters in educational institutions.
— We use both budget funds and appeal to various foundations, benefactors, and people's deputies. People's deputy Oleksandr Haidu, together with his colleague Andrii Bohdanets, decided to help us arrange two shelters in Mykolaiv. No budget funds were used here. Unfortunately, we cannot teach children in our schools because we are still in the area affected by ballistic missiles. But as soon as the security situation allows us, children will study offline and will be able to be safe in these shelters, — he said.
People's deputy Oleksandr Haidu said that he plans to attract funds from other charitable funds in order to equip three more shelters in other schools of Mykolaiv.
— The primary task was to help our schools, which according to our forecasts were supposed to withdraw from online education, to equip shelters in the summer so that children could start offline education as early as September 1. Unfortunately, kids are learning online now, but we have to be ready to learn in schools. Together with my colleague Andrii Bohdanets, we took steps that helped equip two shelters with the help of his charity fund. These schools are located in my district, we talked with groups in the city, representatives of schools and decided to set up a shelter here. Today we can already see how the work and the children will be comfortable here. We continue this trend and are currently cooperating with other foundations to equip three more shelters in other schools, — he summarized.
A total of 120 million hryvnias was allocated for the arrangement of 32 shelters in Ukraine, which included two institutions in Mykolaiv. The average cost of one such shelter is about four million hryvnias.
We would like to remind that educational institutions in Mykolaiv continue to set up shelters for schoolchildren for the period of the start of offline education. Journalists were shown the condition and readiness of two such shelters in Mykolaiv Lyceum and Gymnasium. Also, on October 25, the city authorities showed how two new shelters were equipped with donor funds in one of the lyceums of the Korabelnyy district of Mykolaiv.
In addition, they promise to repair 23 shelters in residential buildings in Mykolaiv by the end of the year. Currently, specialists are performing work in two facilities on Tsentralnyy Avenue.
As you know, the Mykolaiv region has become one of the six regions of Ukraine with the worst shelter conditions. According to Vitalii Kim, the largest percentage of abandoned warehouses is in the regional center.
We will remind that in Mykolaiv, more than 70 million hryvnias were allocated from the city budget for the repair and equipping of shelters. However, the city budget of Mykolaiv will not receive funding from 102 million for the repair of protective structures in schools and kindergartens, which the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated for the Mykolaiv region.
