On December 3, in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, appealed to NATO member states to urgently provide Ukraine with at least 20 additional air defense systems.
As noted in the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this will help to avoid blackouts and strengthen the energy stability of Ukraine in the winter period.
Sybiha informed about the difficult situation at the front, noting that Russia continues to try to capture as much territory as possible to strengthen its position in possible future negotiations.
«We need to stop Russia and prevent its troops from advancing on our territory. Their logic is clear: they are trying to occupy as much territory as possible to strengthen their future negotiating position,» he emphasized.
The minister also recalled Moscow's hybrid attacks against European countries, cooperation with Iran and North Korea in the war against Ukraine, and called on NATO to strengthen Russia's deterrence.
«Ukraine urgently needs the supply of at least 20 additional air defense systems of the HAWK, NASAMS or IRIS-T type. This will help to avoid blackouts,» said Sybiha.
At the end, the minister showed the original of the Budapest Memorandum, emphasizing its symbolic value.
«This document, this paper could not ensure Ukrainian and transatlantic security. We must avoid repeating such mistakes. In this context, we will discuss the concept of «peace through strength» with our partners, he concluded.
We will remind that Germany will provide Ukraine with a new package of military aid in the amount of 650 million euros. Already in December, the sixth IRIS-T air defense system, Patriot launchers and Gepard anti-aircraft tanks will be delivered.
