In Mykolaiv, unknown assailants poured red paint over the building of the synagogue of the Jewish community, located in the center of the city.
This was reported by the correspondent of «NikVesti».
The windows and facade of the building at the intersection of Velyka Morska and Shneersona streets are covered in paint. Currently, the area is cordoned off, and police officers are on the scene.
In particular, the chairman of the supervisory board of the regional council of national societies Mykhailo Goldenberg and the chief rabbi of Mykolaiv Sholom Gottlieb have already visited the scene.
The act of vandalism, according to the opinion of the Jewish community, could probably be caused by the events in the Middle East, where massive shelling began between Israel and the Gaza Strip in early October.
In a comment to «NikVesti», Mykhailo Goldenberg stated that the situation is under control, because there is an appropriate reaction of society and law enforcement agencies. Rabbi Sholom Gottlieb shares the same position.
— Neither I nor the rabbi are panicking. Yes, it was most likely an organized action, because we know that something similar happened in two other cities of Ukraine. During this month, such a number of people were killed (on the territory of Israel by Hamas militants - note) there was not even during the events of the Day of Judgment in 1973. And this number continues to grow, bodies continue to be recognized. If the response of the Jews was emotional, there could be a disproportionality in terms of the death of the residents of the Gaza Strip. When the ground operation begins, the Israelis will not engage in looting and violence, even with a desire for revenge in their hearts. Israel is fighting not with Gaza, but with Hamas, but they (HAMAS fighters, note) put children and women ahead of themselves. Take them from there, take them to Europe, but no one wants to, — said Mykhailo Goldenberg.
At the same time, he named another, but unlikely version of why the synagogue was covered with paint.
— Perhaps this act was aimed at support and expression of sympathy, hinting at the spilled blood of innocent Jews during this conflict. Even if that's the case, which I doubt, it's not the best way to express hope for a normal settlement of events, — he added.
It is worth reminding that the SSU previously exposed the special services of the Russian Federation for recruiting Ukrainian teenagers for anti-Semitic provocations in various regions of Ukraine.
It should be noted that «NikVesti» also requested a comment from the head of the Council of Elders of National Societies of the Mykolaiv region, Sultan Murad Kaimarazov, but we were unable to contact him.
As you know, on the morning of October 7, HAMAS massively hit southern and central Israel with rockets from the Gaza Strip. Militants broke through the border and entered several settlements in the south of Israel. More than 2,200 rockets were fired across the country.
In response, ground and air forces of the Israel Defense Forces struck Hamas targets. In particular, the Israeli military hit two high-rise buildings in the Gaza Strip, where, according to their information, Palestinian militants were located.
