Two Russian agents suspected of spying on the Defense Forces and key objects of critical infrastructure at the behest of the FSS and military intelligence of the Russian Federation were detained in Mykolaiv.
This was reported by the SSU press service.
According to law enforcement officials, one of the detainees is a local law enforcement officer who has been in contact with a resident of the Russian intelligence group, a former official of the disbanded militia, Andrii Shevchenko since 2015.
On the instructions of the latter, agents in Mykolaiv collected data on the locations and movements of the units of the Armed Forces in the region. Also, the person involved tried to establish the locations of strategic enterprises of the defense-industrial complex and «reported» to the occupiers about personnel decisions in law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
To obtain data, the man used his official position, and also asked his work colleagues for the information he needed under the guise of friendly conversations. In addition, the agent involved in the activities of his father, an ex-policeman.
The SSU reports that the occupiers fired again at one of the energy facilities in Prykarpattia, according to its coordinates. For this, he used the help of an acquaintance who lives in the territory of the western region of Ukraine.
The agent's task also included searching for potential candidates for recruitment, in particular among former and active law enforcement officers and military personnel in the Mykolayiv region.
The man was detained while trying to flee to Crimea. At the same time, a traitorous law enforcement officer was arrested.
«The cell was supervised by the head of the 161st Specialist Training Center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (better known as the GRU) and two employees of the «FSS Directorate in Crimea». Their identities have already been established by the Security Service,» the SSU reports.
During the searches, mobile phones, computer equipment, draft records and documents containing evidence of crimes were seized from the detainees. Russian symbols and rubles were also found.
Detainees were notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). They are currently in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
According to the same article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, a resident of the agent group, Andrii Shevchenko, received suspicion in absentia.
We will remind, the Security Service of Ukraine announced the suspicion of another Russian military official involved in the occupation of the Mykolaiv region. We are talking about the commander of the Ural District of the National Guard of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Volodymyr Spyrydonov.
