The Kinburn spit, occupied by the Russian military since the beginning of the full-scale war, continues to suffer from forest fires.
Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesman for the Naval Forces of Ukraine, spoke about the situation at Kinburn on the air of Suspilne.Novyny.
He noted that the Kinburn spit is currently the territory of active hostilities. The Russians have turned the peninsula into a fortified area, from where they shell Mykolaiv and part of the Kherson region.
«This territory has always been a reserve, it was an important natural resource, of course for the Russians, the occupiers don't care about it. They set up their positions there. The southern part of the Mykolaiv region, the Dnieper-Buh Lyman and even the Kherson region suffered mostly from them,» he said.
According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, the Russian military on the Kinburn spit receives a response from the Ukrainian army, which is why the peninsula suffers from fires.
«They get a response. As a result, ignitions and forest fires may occur. Therefore, unfortunately, it is actually a war zone now, and there are enough active ones,» he said.
