sandspit in Ochakiv Raion, Mykolaiv Oblast

Kinburn Spit is a sandspit in Ochakiv Raion of Mykolaiv Oblast on the Black Sea coast, occupied by Russian troops since 2022. The last evacuation of residents took place in May 2022; volunteer Yevhen Poltavchuk took more than a thousand people out of Kinburn on a single boat. The fighting keeps setting the protected land on fire: in the first eight months of 2025 alone there were 547 fires, and a Ukrainian Navy spokesman said the spit had been virtually destroyed. Kinburn also appears in peace plans: the US plan provided for a Russian withdrawal, and the plan Zelenskyy described in December 2025 for the demilitarisation of the spit.

MykVisti covers Ukrainian strikes and military intelligence raids on the spit, fires in the nature reserve, crimes against Kinburn residents and plans to restore nature after de-occupation.
