One of the 20 points of the peace plan includes the demilitarisation of the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv region, which has been occupied by Russian troops since 2022.
This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a private meeting with journalists.
The issue of territories, according to a number of media outlets, is the most difficult point of potential agreements. One of the options under discussion is for Russia to withdraw from the territories of Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Sumy and Kharkiv regions. Instead, a free economic zone is proposed for Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
«If the parties do not agree to the principle of «stand where we are», the introduction of such a zone is possible only through a national referendum, which will have to put the entire package of agreements on the ballot,» the journalists write.
Also, according to the information voiced at the meeting, Russia should not prevent Ukraine from using the Dnipro River and the Black Sea for commercial activities. In this context, it is noted that the Kinburn Spit should be demilitarised.
It is worth reminding that the clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit, which is partially within the administrative boundaries of Mykolaiv region, appeared in Donald Trump's peace plan and began to be discussed in April 2025.
