The number of Russian military units increased on the territory of the occupied Kinburn spit.

The spokesperson of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshin, told about this in the report of Novyny Pryazovia.

Artillery units and air defense units are now concentrated on the spit. In addition, the Russians transferred a division of river boats from Sevastopol to Kinbourn about 2 months ago.

«They are defending this area in order to prevent the seizure of the Dnipro Bay itself. The enemy has great concern and, in addition to deploying additional defense forces on the Kinburn spit itself, some two and a half months ago, they transferred a division of river boats there from Sevastopol — they joined it to the so-called Dnipro flotilla. This is also done in order to strengthen its presence in the Dnipro Bay and on the Kinburn spit in particular,» said Vladyslav Voloshyn.

He added that the spit closes the entrance from the sea to the Dnipro, therefore, by taking it under control, it is possible to «actually close the possibility for Russian units to receive some support from the sea.»

«This is a very important bridgehead for them and for us. In addition, from the Kinburn spit it is possible to shell the south of the Kherson region and the south of the Mykolaiv region. This is indeed an important bridgehead in many, many ways,» he added.

It should be noted that for the past several months, the Russian army has been terrorizing the residents of the villages of Kutsurub and Ochakiv communities almost every day, systematically shelling them from the occupied peninsula. For this, they involve artillery and FPV drones. Most often, the villages of Dmytrivka, Solonchaky, Ivanivka, etc. fall under the attack of the enemy.

What's happening at Kinburn?

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the territory of the Kinburn Spit has been occupied by the Russian military. Actually, from there, the Russians have been shelling Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities of the Mykolaiv region for more than a year.

Until now , only three settlements located on the territory of the Kinburn spit remain occupied in the Mykolaiv region. These are the following settlements:

  • the village of Vasylivka. Before the full-scale war, the population was 382;

  • the village of Pokrovka. Before the full-scale war, the population was 229 people;

  • the village of Pokrovske. Before the full-scale war, the population was 177 people.

Vitalii Kim, the head of Mykolaiv RMA, said that the release of the Kinburn spit is a matter of time, «and not a very long one.» This was also confirmed by the speaker of the Defense Forces of the South, Nataliia Humeniuk.

At the same time, the Russian occupiers continue to shell and mine the protected territory of the Kinburn Peninsula. Almost daily, wild animals are blown up by landmines there, and there are also cases of human casualties. This is stated in the article NikVesti «On the verge of destruction: How the protected Kinburn spit suffers from the actions of the occupiers».

During the entire period of occupation, forests on the Kinburn spit occasionally burned. The situation is usually complicated by the fact that the Russian occupiers did not allow rescuers to put out the fire, so fires can last for weeks. At the same time, as noted in RMA, Mykolaiv Oblast cannot help extinguish fires there, as all fire departments and equipment that can get there are located in the occupied territories of Kherson Oblast.

Due to the fires in Kinburn, red book orchids, other unique plants and animals were under threat, reported the ombudsman Liudmyla Denisova.

After the deoccupation, the Kinburn spit will need time to restore nature on its own, reported in «Biloberezhzhia Svyatoslava». This will take place during the period while demining of the protected area continues.

In October 2024, Serhii Beliakov, the Gauleiter of the occupied villages of Pokrovka and Vasylivka on the Kinburn Peninsula, complained about the actions of the Russian military, who are looting and threatening the local population with violence and massacre.
