Two residents of Kherson were informed in absentia about the suspicion of collaboration with the occupiers. They are suspected of preparing and conducting a pseudo-referendum on the accession of Kherson Oblast to Russia.
This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, the 56- and 52-year-old suspects accepted the occupation leadership's offer in September 2022 and joined the so-called «precinct election commissions». They operated on the territory of the villages of Burhunka of Beryslav district and Mykilske of Kherson District and were preparing to hold a pseudo-referendum on the region's accession to Russia.
The prosecutor's office noted that the women issued ballot papers, checked people according to the lists and campaigned.
The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Ukrainian Security Service in the Kherson region.
In addition, the law enforcement officers accuse a resident of Kherson, who was preparing to hold an illegal referendum on joining the region to the Russian Federation.
It was previously reported that the Snihurivka district court sentenced a resident of the village to 7 years in prison, who, during the occupation by Russian troops, assumed the position of the so-called «head of the Vasylivka village council.»
It will be recalled that earlier the court found guilty 48-year-old Olha Zakharova from the town of Snihurivka, Mykolaiv Region, who during the occupation voluntarily sided with the Russian authorities and became the deputy director of an illegally established local school.
