In a new report, the Danish intelligence service warns that Russia could be ready for a full-scale war in Europe in the next five years. Provided that the war in Ukraine ends or freezes, and NATO does not modernise its weapons.
This was reported by DR with reference to an analytical report by the intelligence agency.
Among the main reasons for a possible war in Europe, analysts say the reform of the Russian armed forces. Despite the fighting in Ukraine, Russia is actively modernising its military equipment and increasing its production capacity.
«Russia has already managed to increase its capacity to modernise its military equipment and significantly increase its military production», the report says.
Danish intelligence notes that Russia is already able to allocate resources for a possible conflict with NATO, in particular thanks to financial and material support from the outside.
«Not least thanks to the financial and material support it receives from outside», the report says.
It is predicted that if the fighting in Ukraine stops, Russia will be able to wage a local war in one of its neighbouring countries in about six months.
In addition, in about two years, it will pose a real threat to one or more NATO countries. It will also be ready for a regional war against several countries in the Baltic Sea region. It is noted that in about five years, Russia will be ready for a war on the European continent without the participation of the United States.
At the same time, analysts stress that these estimates are based on the assumption that NATO will not rearm at the same pace as Russia.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on the United States to continue supporting Ukraine, and if necessary, Europe would finance the weapons provided.
