A video has been posted on social media that allegedly shows the execution of at least five unarmed Ukrainian servicemen who were captured by the Russian military.
This was reported by the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.
«Once again, we see a cynical disregard for international humanitarian law on the part of the Russian army. Those who give orders and execute such atrocities must be held strictly accountable», he said.
The Ombudsman has already appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to have this war crime recorded.
According to volunteer Serhii Sternenko, the Russian war crime took place in the village of Kozacha Loknia in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. He wrote that in this village, Ukrainian units were blocked and cut off from the main forces for about a week.
Earlier, the Russian Federation released a video showing Russian soldiers ordering the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Dmytro Lubinets emphasises that executions of Ukrainians in captivity are a deliberate tactic of Russia.
As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the first step towards peace talks with Russia should be the exchange of prisoners in the format of «all for all». Ukraine is ready for such a step.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the end of the war should begin with steps that restore confidence in the situation itself. And the situation that will be a step towards ending the war is the release of all prisoners.
