In Mykolaiv, in the event of prolonged power outages in remote areas, trolleybuses will be charged from generators, and if necessary, some transport services will be provided by buses.
This was announced by the director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Utilities Department, Dmytro Bezdolnyi, during a briefing today, 22 January, according to NikVesti.
According to him, some trolleybuses have already been charged from generators.
«Again, everything will depend on the circumstances. That is, even in the Korabelny district, there is a generator at the substation. There have already been power outages, and trolleybuses have been connected to generators. That is, at certain moments, we are dealing with the situation in this way. If the power outages continue for longer, then buses will be deployed, and so on. Well, we will do what we can. But we see that Kyiv and Odesa, unfortunately, are not always able to overcome the crises that arise. So we hope for the best. However, it is simply impossible to prepare for everything,» said Dmytro Bezdolnyi.
It should be noted that, according to the first deputy mayor, Vitalii Lukov, in the event of power outages, electric transport will not be able to operate steadily.
«Regional and state authorities are definitely doing everything possible to minimise the consequences of the war, but it is impossible to eliminate them completely. If there are power outages, electric transport will, of course, not be able to operate stably, as it depends on electricity. Even considering that some trolleybuses can be charged from generators and have autonomous operation, such generation is less effective in winter: batteries work 30-40% worse than in summer. So how can we promise the people of Matviivka regular transport connections? It would be dishonest,» said Vitalii Lukov in a comment to NikVesti.
As a reminder, today, 22 January, only trolleybuses with autonomous operation are running in Mykolaiv, and tram service has been temporarily suspended.
According to the municipal enterprise Mykolaivelektrotrans, electric transport in the city is operating in a limited mode due to emergency and hourly power outages.
We remind you that the situation with electricity supply in the Mykolaiv region remains difficult. Residents should be prepared for the worst-case scenario — up to two hours of electricity per day.
It should be noted that today, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, apologised to the residents of Mykolaiv for the frequent power outages and noted that it is currently impossible to influence the situation.
