In Mykolaiv, in the event of a blackout, schools will switch to distance learning, and kindergartens will switch to short-term stays.

This was announced in a comment to NikVesti by Mykolaiv Deputy Mayor Anatolii Petrov and Deputy Head of the City Education Department Svitlana Makarova.

According to Anatolii Petrov, almost all educational institutions are equipped with generators, but their capacity is insufficient to power the canteens.

«General secondary education institutions plan to operate as usual. Electricity is not always and everywhere sufficient for kitchens to operate, but employees come to work even at night. Currently, there are no serious problems with food in schools, but it is very difficult for people who work in food service. [...] We are currently working on the issue of providing generators. Almost all institutions are equipped with generators, but unfortunately, they have a low power of 5-8 kW, which is not enough to run 100% of the food service facilities. Where there are generators with more than 30-40 kW, the situation is more or less normal,» said Anatolii Petrov.

According to him, in the event of a blackout, schools will switch to distance learning.

«In the event of a complete blackout, primary and secondary schools will switch to distance learning, and pre-school institutions will switch to short-term stays. Where generators are more powerful and kitchens can operate, there will be a full day. Where this cannot be ensured, and we are talking about 40 kindergartens and 52 educational institutions, children will stay in institutions for part of the day. We will hold meetings with parents and explain the situation, because these are circumstances that are beyond your, my, and other people's control,» added Anatolii Petrov.

As Svitlana Makarova explained, in such situations, kindergartens will only operate for four hours and without meals.

«Preschool institutions are trying their best to adapt to the power outage schedules and provide hot meals to their pupils. In cases where the hourly power outage schedule makes it impossible to prepare food, preschool institutions will switch to a mode where children stay at the institution for no more than four hours, without meals,» explained Svitlana Makarova.

We remind you that yesterday, 22 January, only trolleybuses with autonomous operation were running in Mykolaiv, and tram service was temporarily suspended.

According to the municipal enterprise Mykolaivelektrotrans, electric transport in the city is operating in a limited mode due to emergency and hourly power outages.

The power supply situation in the Mykolaiv region remains difficult. Residents should be prepared for the worst-case scenario — up to two hours of electricity per day.

Yesterday, 22 January, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, apologised to the residents of Mykolaiv for the frequent power outages and noted that it is currently impossible to influence the situation.

Vitalii Kim later stated that protests or roadblocks would not affect the number of hours of power outages. According to him, the forecast for electricity is currently bleak, so communities and residents should prepare for the worst-case scenario.
