Work is nearing completion on a prosthetics workshop at the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital for War Veterans. The plan is to manufacture prosthetics there for people who have lost limbs.

This was announced on 19 October during a meeting of the relevant committee of the Mykolaiv Regional Council by the hospital’s director, Olena Kuzmina, according to NikVesti.

According to her, renovation work on the workshop premises is already drawing to a close. However, for it to become operational, the hospital needs to formally add new types of activity to its statutory documents.

«We are finalising the refurbishment work to set up a prosthetics workshop on our premises. Therefore, to continue our work, we need to include the relevant KVED codes in our founding documents,» explained Olena Kuzmina.

This involves authorisation to manufacture medical instruments and materials, as well as to repair and maintain equipment.

During the meeting, it was explained that the prosthetics workshop will enable the hospital to provide more comprehensive care to people following amputations. In particular, patients will be able to undergo rehabilitation and receive the necessary prostheses at a single medical facility.

Olena Kuzmina noted that without adding these new activities, the hospital would be unable to complete the paperwork required for the workshop to operate.

The committee members unanimously supported the proposal and recommended that the matter be submitted for consideration at the 39th extraordinary session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council. The final decision is to be taken by the councillors.

It should be recalled that plans had previously been made to open a prosthetics and orthotics workshop at Mykolaiv City Hospital №4. To set it up, German partners donated equipment worth 50,000 euros, and specialists underwent training in Germany.

It also emerged in October 2026 that City Hospital №4 was planning to purchase prosthetic components worth almost 10 million hryvnias.
