On Sunday, June 9, a rally was held in Mykolaiv in support of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Relatives of Mykolaiv soldiers who are in captivity, relatives of those who died in the war, and caring residents of the city came to the rally.
This was reported by the NikVesti correspondent.
The participants of the rally gathered at the intersection of Tsentralnyi Avenue and Mala Morska Street in Mykolaiv. The demonstrators are demanding the release of the soldiers who are in Russian captivity.
Most of the participants of the rally brought with them posters, the flag of Ukraine and the flags of various brigades, including the Mykolaiv 36th Separate Marine Brigade, which defended Mariupol in 2022.
«Return my heart from captivity»;
«Captivity is death stretched out in time»;
«The prisoners' wounds are rotting. The soul of those who are indifferent rots»;
«They are in hell for 789 days. Do they have hope?»;
«While you are silent, they are being tortured»;
«Who do you have there? I have everyone there,» said the posters.
Lidiia, who is waiting for the return of her son from Russian captivity, also came to the rally. Today is her birthday, and it was on this day that two years ago her son Yuriy was captured by the Russians.
«He served since 2014. He was in the 57th brigade, worked and was captured in Luhansk region during fierce fighting in 2022, when a lot of our people were captured. We know where it is, then only the exchange for which we are waiting, and which is not there. He is the meaning of my life, my beloved only son,» Lidiia said.
Yurii is 44 years old, his mother, wife and 3-year-old son are waiting for him at home.
After the death of her fiancé in Bakhmut in March 2023, Valeriia began attending rallies. The girl is from Donetsk, in 2014 she moved to Borodianka, and later to Kyiv. Valeriia came to Mykolaiv on volunteer work and could not miss the rally, she says.
«We are the rear, and we are the only ones who have hope in this situation. Soldiers and prisoners of war count on us, we have no right to frame them. My Mykhailo was born in Mariupol and he was always concerned about the fate of the prisoners of war of the Mariupol garrison. He always told me: «Lera, go to rallies,» and I have work and other things all the time. It was after his death that I began to actively participate in support actions. I am of the opinion that we are a safe rear for our soldiers and prisoners of war, and we must save those who can still survive and return home. I will not return my Mykhailo, but I have to help return those who are still alive,» Valeriia shared.
The rally takes place in Mykolaiv every Sunday at 12:00 on Tsentralnyi Avenue.
