By the day of unity, February 16, a photo exhibition «In hearts, in memory, in thoughts» was opened in Mykolaiv, dedicated to the events of the Revolution of Dignity and the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
This was reported by the NikVesti correspondent.
The exhibition featured the works of Ihor Yermolaiev, Oleksandr Saikovskyi, Yurii Kashkovskyi and Yaroslav Indykov. Each of the authors witnessed the events on the Maidan in Kyiv, or the rallies in Mykolaiv in 2013-2014.
The event was also attended by the mother of Serhii Kemskyi, the deceased participant of the Revolution of Dignity and Hero of Ukraine, Tamara. The woman recalls that Serhii read many books and always had an active public position.
«His views on life were very correct, because he had a higher education in the field of political science, he understood everything that was happening in the country, what we should expect in the future, he understood everything absolutely. He then told me: «Mom, everything is just beginning.» He saw a lot in advance and knew: who is Russia and what can happen. On the 21st (November 21, 2013, note) Mustafa Nayem wrote: «take cookies, tea and let's all go to the Maidan». The next morning, my son went to the Maidan,» said Tamara Kemska.
During the Revolution of Dignity, the family lived in Korosten, in Zhytomyr Oblast. Serhiy went to the Maidan in Kyiv for two or three weeks and then returned home for a few days.
«The last time he came home was on February 15 (2014, note) and I was very happy. And on February 17, I went to work, and when I came home, Serhii was gone. Then he left his hat. He stood in it the entire Maidan, and it was the only day when he did not find it. That's how she was remembered,» said Tamara Kemska.
In a comment to a NikVesti correspondent, Tamara admitted that she regretted not going to the protest on the Maidan.
«I have never been to Kyiv during the Revolution, I saw what happened there only on television. It is 150 kilometers from Korosten, literally two hours by bus. I call Serhii, I ask: «Is everything okay?», he says «yes, we'll figure out why you're coming here.» And I never went, maybe it was necessary - I don't know. I regret this very much, most of all,» said Tamara Kemska.
Serhii's mother has been living in Mykolaiv for the past seven years. According to the woman, she received the things in which her son died only the day before yesterday.
Photographer and author of some of the works presented, Yurii Kashkovskyi, recalling the events of 2014, said that the realization that your life and the future of the country depend on you is very important for every Ukrainian.
Oleh Hiliakin, an active participant of the Maidan from Mykolaiv, told the youth about the events of 2013-2014. The man arrived in the capital on December 11 and stayed in Kyiv until the end of the Revolution.
«Many people came, about three thousand were already there, behind the fence near the Verkhovna Rada, self-defense units, as well as the public of the city of Kyiv, she came to Mariinsky Park and terrible events began. Aunts started throwing grenades. At first, I helped evacuate the wounded, and then I was wounded myself,» Oleh Hiliakin recalls.
Since his speech, Hiliakin called on people to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and also performed an author's song.
It should be noted that the exhibition was supposed to open on February 21, 2022, but for technical reasons it was postponed to a later time. Later, a full-scale invasion began and the event was canceled.
Residents and guests of the city will be able to visit the exhibition until March 1 at the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
