In Pervomaisk, deputies decided on proposals to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the renaming of the city

In the Pervomaisk City Council, the deputies decided to propose to the Verkhovna Rada at once two options for the name of the city.

On Friday, December 29, deputies gathered for an extraordinary session. Out of 38 deputies of the city council, 28 deputies took part in the meeting.

Discussions lasted almost two hours among the deputies, the press service of the city council said. Lawyers appeared before the deputies and explained that according to the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada, the name «Pervomaisk» is subject to replacement. Dmytro Malyshevskyi, the head of the toponymy commission, also spoke before the audience, and announced the results of the vote to the general public. He noted that the majority of residents supported the name Pervomaisk, and the deputies should still take the opinion of the public into account.

Deputies could not come to an agreement for a long time and vote for one of the options. In the end, the proposal was to offer the Verkhovna Rada two options, Olviopol, or to keep the same name as Pervomaisk. The proposal received the required number of votes. For — 21 votes.

We remind that at the session on December 21, the deputies did not have enough votes to change the name to Olviopol. Also, the deputies could not vote to keep the old name.

According to the voting results, six leader names were determined, which were presented to the public for discussion in social networks:

  • Bohoslavsk,
  • Olviopol,
  • Bohopol,
  • Holta,
  • Olviia,
  • Orlyk.

As of December 15, taking into account the results obtained from the official pages of the executive committee of the Pervomaisk city council: on the website, in the Facebook and Telegram networks, a total of 2,478 people voted. And the largest number of votes, namely 915, was given by the residents of the community for Olviopol.

We remind that the Mykolaiv Oblast is recommended to revise the names of the cities of Pervomaisk, Yuzhnoukrainsk and 57 villages due to non-compliance with the standards of the state language.

After that, public discussions about renaming the city started in Pervomaisk. The townspeople were asked to choose a name from five proposed options: Olviopol, Bohopol and Holta, Olviia or Pershotravensk. The survey continues until September 26. Olviopol received the most votes so far.
