The President of Poland Andrzej Duda on the day of the beginning of the Second World War emphasized the importance of compensation for the war damages caused by the aggressor, mentioning Ukraine in this context.
This is reported by Ukrinform.
Andrzej Duda reminded that during the war, Poland suffered huge material and human losses, which were not compensated. According to the calculations of Polish experts, the material losses of the country as a result of German aggression exceed 1.5 trillion dollars. More than 70% of this amount is compensation for human losses, because during the war the country lost 5 million people.
Andrzej Duda emphasized that Germany repeatedly apologized for the wrongs inflicted on Poland, and «in a Christian sense, the Poles forgave the Germans.»
«But, apart from that, there are also material losses. And regardless of whether we accept (apology, — note) and forgive, we deserve compensation for the losses, for what was irrevocably destroyed,» the president emphasized.
In his opinion, this case today has an international dimension in the context of the future prosecution of Russia for the damage caused to Ukraine.
«We would not like Ukraine to have to rebuild at its own expense, as Poland did for 40 years. Ukraine will need support, but first of all it will demand compensation and compensation for the damage caused, which is the absolute duty of the aggressor, that is, Russia,» Andrzej Duda emphasized.
We will remind, as of the end of 2023, the amount of damage caused to the infrastructure of Mykolaiv reached almost 900 million euros.
