Trump announces intention to buy Gaza and control its reconstruction

US President Donald Trump has said he intends to «buy and own» Gaza, and may transfer the restoration of the destroyed territories to other countries in the Middle East.

He said this on 9 February, Reuters reports.

«As for the reconstruction, we can give it to other states in the Middle East to rebuild certain parts. But we are committed to owning Gaza, holding it, and making sure that Hamas does not come back,» Donald Trump said.

He also noted that most of the «sector is to be demolished», and stressed that «everything will be demolished».

Donald Trump added that he is considering the possibility of accepting some Palestinian refugees in the United States, but such requests will be assessed individually.

Earlier, Donald Trump said that he was not sure that the truce between Israel and the Hamas group would last. He also added that he had seen footage from the Gaza Strip and it was «a big ruin», where everything would have to be rebuilt.
