The Gaza Strip is a Palestinian territory on the Mediterranean coast, bordering Israel and Egypt. In practice it is controlled by Hamas.

After the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, Israel went to war against the group in Gaza: Defence Minister Yoav Gallant ordered a full blockade, and in May 2024 the Israeli army took control of the entire border between the strip and Egypt. In November 2024 the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. On 13 October 2025 the United States, together with Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, signed a ceasefire agreement for Gaza.
