«We are improving the stability and have relieved the mayor of his responsibilities», said the chair of the water utility’s supervisory board regarding the appointment of the director

The Supervisory Board of the municipal enterprise Mykolaivvodokanal has removed the sole responsibility for appointing the director of the enterprise, which is of critical importance to the city, from Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych. This view was expressed on the municipal TV channel «MART» by the Chair of the Supervisory Board, Hanna Montavon. An excerpt from the interview was published on the «Mykolaivvodokanal» Facebook page, reports NikVesti reports.

As is known, in January 2026, a new general director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» was appointed in Mykolaiv. The post was taken by Hennadii Iziumov — the former head and chief engineer of water supply construction projects at the municipal enterprise «Mariupolvodokanal». His appointment followed a competition in which 19 candidates took part. In April, it emerged that the water utility’s new management had dismissed technical director Vasyl Telpis, who had worked at the company for over 40 years; following this, the water utility’s staff protested against the new director and the actions of the supervisory board.

Judging by a video clip published today, 18 April, on the «Mykolaivvodokanal» Facebook page, Hanna Montavon commented on the powers of the supervisory board, in particular regarding the appointment of the company’s director. According to her, the collegial body she heads has effectively stripped the mayor of Mykolaiv of his «concentration of responsibility» in personnel matters, meaning that the appointment of the company’s director will not depend on the political situation or changes in the city’s leadership, since, for example, Oleksandr Sienkevych could theoretically become a minister or an ambassador. According to Hanna Montavon, this contributes to a more stable situation at the municipal enterprise.

«Now the director is not appointed by the mayor. And the mayor may, for example, change jobs. He may become a minister, an ambassador… he may decide…. This is one person on whom a great many processes depend. Now, with a supervisory board, we are removing this pressure and this concentration of responsibility, taking it upon ourselves. And in this way, we are increasing the stability of the enterprise. Now, it is not just one person appointing the director, but five experts who have vetted the candidate. And we also work together, each drawing on our own expertise. We have people with financial experience and experience working on international projects. All of this allows us to see the bigger picture. And so the aim is to strengthen the resilience of this company as a whole,» said Hanna Montavon.

As a reminder, the supervisory board of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivvodokanal» previously stated that they had not taken a decision to dismiss the company’s technical director, Vasyl Telpis, as had been previously reported by the new CEO, Hennadiy Iziumov.
