Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian presidential election could go ahead if Vladimir Putin agreed to a two-month ceasefire, screenshot from ABC NewsUkraine is ready to hold elections for a new president provided there is a 60-day ceasefire. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed this position on the American television channel ABC News today, 11 October, whilst commenting on US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the need for a change of president in Ukraine.
— Yes, we are at war, and holding elections is very difficult. Not only because it is dangerous, not because it is unconstitutional, but most importantly – to ensure safe conditions for this. To give people the opportunity to vote. Of course, it is up to the Ukrainian people to decide when to vote, how to do so, and whom to elect. But, in answering this question, I know that Putin is very keen to see a change of president in Ukraine. I understand this. And if President Trump genuinely wants change through elections – and I have also told his team this – please ask Putin to give us two months, a 60-day ceasefire, and we will organise the elections. Of course, we will be ready for whatever choice our people – namely the Ukrainians – make,» said Volodymyr Zelensky.
It should be recalled that US President Donald Trump stated that it is time for Ukraine to elect a new president. He claims that Volodymyr Zelenskyy has had numerous opportunities to negotiate an end to the war, but has failed to take advantage of them.
