The Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority conducted an analysis of the impact of the possible reconstruction of the Mykolaiv seaport area on the environment and proposed options for its minimization.
This was discussed during public hearings on Wednesday, December 6, the correspondent of NikVesti reports.
According to the announced data, the most negative impact on the environment is the pollution of the water environment by household waste during reconstruction works. In order to reduce such an impact, USPA provided places for the accumulation of such waste on special sites with a hard surface.
We will remind that it is about the reconstruction of the already existing anchorages No. 1 and No. 2, which are located in the water area of the Eastern Raid of the port. To do this, they plan to carry out dredging of the water area.
«All types of waste generated during dredging will be removed by a special enterprise,» the representative of the administration said during the discussions.
In addition, the customer provided for the disposal of household and fecal waste. Thus, in order to prevent pollution of the water environment, such effluents are planned to be collected and stored in special tanks.
«As they accumulate, they will be handed over to specialized organizations,» USPA reported.
Based on the presentation presented during the public hearing, the reconstruction of the Mykolaiv seaport will have an acceptable level of impact on the environment.
As for the impact of such works on the social environment, it is assessed as positive. According to AMCU, the reconstruction of the port will have a qualitative impact on the local economy.
«When carrying out planned activities, the integral impact on most components of the natural environment is estimated to be insignificant. The social consequences of this project have a pronounced positive character. The impact on the man-made environment should also be defined as positive,» says the presentation.
As a reminder, half of the water area near the Mykolaiv seaport can be demined. For this purpose, special platform vessels are needed, which should be provided by STSS and SESU.
