Construction of a sorting station, where construction waste will be processed, is underway in Mykolaiv.

About this NikVesti told representatives of the UN Development Program in Ukraine during the visit of Mykolaiv.

As the organization noted, during the shelling and attacks on Mykolaiv, the destruction led to the formation of 28,000 cubic meters of waste, which is stored in landfills and temporary areas for storage. This amount of waste is subject to recycling, says the UNDP.

So far, the organization has taken over technical support and provided part of the necessary equipment, said Oleksii Pechenyi, engineering analyst of UNDP.

«We provide international technical assistance, both the technical component in terms of dismantling and garbage removal, and the provision of equipment. As part of this project, Mykolaiv has already been provided with a crusher and sorting machine and one forklift to operate this equipment. Thanks to this, demolition waste can be crushed and sorted into fractions, and the final product can be sent for construction needs,» the specialist said.

The sorting site is scheduled to start operating by the end of the year. Currently, the city government must complete its arrangement.

«The preliminary term of arrangement for a full launch is the fourth quarter of this year. Of course, there can be some complications that can delay the process, or can speed it up on the contrary. The land has already been allocated, it remains to organize a hard surface, install a fence, distribute where and what waste should be. This is the work of local authorities,» added Oleksii Pechenyi.
