«These are targets» — Kim explained why schools cannot be opened in Mykolaiv

Mykolaiv educational institutions are targets for the Russian army, because at the beginning of the war, they usually housed military personnel.

The head of the Mykolayiv RMA spoke about this at a briefing, «NikVesti» writes.

According to him, despite the fact that the level of danger in Mykolaiv has decreased compared to the previous year, educational institutions remain strategic goals for Russians.

— Taking into account the fact that the Mykolaiv region was a front-line area for a very long time and educational institutions were previously used by the military, Russians consider them all targets. They are stupid and sometimes hit targets six months later, when the military has already left there. And these goals are educational institutions, — said the head of RMA.

He noted that at the beginning of the academic year, he consulted with representatives of military intelligence and the Security Service of Ukraine on this matter, after which a decision was made to postpone the opening of educational institutions in the city.

We will remind you that the outflow of students was recorded in the schools of Mykolaiv this year. Compared to the last academic year, the number of schoolchildren decreased by 3,300.

As you know, 1,177 internally displaced persons are currently studying in Mykolaiv. 400 children from the temporarily occupied territories also study in remote classes.

It was also reported that at the beginning of the school year, about 27% of Mykolaiv schools' students were abroad.

Earlier, the head of Mykolayiv RMA Vitalii Kim believes that in the academic year 2023/2024 most schools will work online due to the increase in the intensity of shelling.

It is worth noting that earlier in response to the information request of NikVesti regarding the criteria that Mykolaiv educational institutions must meet in order to resume full-time work in the 2023-2024 academic year, the city's education department reported: schools will work in accordance with the recommendations of the State Emergency Service and the Sanitary Regulations approved by the Ministry Health Care. The first is the availability of shelter, and the second is drinking water at school.

Earlier it was reported that in Mykolaiv from September they plan to open about 13 schools for offline education. In some educational institutions, parents will be able to choose whether to send their children to study or stay online at home. However, later it became known that the schools will remain closed for visits, as Mykolaiv is still in the zone of ballistic damage.

According to the monitoring of the Department of Education of the Mykolaiv City Council, 65% of schoolchildren want to study full-time.

For the beginning of the academic year, the Department of Education of the City Council announces tenders for placement in shelter schools in an offline format. Yes, the shelter in school No. 23 will be repaired for 2.2 million hryvnias, and in Lyceum No. 58 for 2.6 million hryvnias.
