«The water stood up to our necks for a week and destroyed our house»: residents of the flooded Afanasiivka in the Mykolaiv region showed the consequences of the destruction of the house

Residents of the village of Afanasiivka in the Mykolaiv region showed the state of their house 5 months after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.

NikVesti journalists visited the settlement and talked with a family whose house was destroyed by the force of the water.

Oleksandr's husband recalls that the village turned into an island in a few days due to the influx of water. In a matter of hours, the house, which he and his wife had just begun to rebuild after the deoccupation, began to flood.

— We did not sit in the occupation. But immediately after the release, they returned and began to make partial repairs. I promised my son that I would build a gym for him, but the water destroyed the house, — the man says.

Currently, it is impossible to live in the house, although the family has plans to rebuild it and return home.

Oleksandr's wife, showing the house from the inside, says that the water stood in the house for a week. A trace of the level she reached remained on the surviving walls.

— Do you see where the river is now? And it was with us, here. There (points to the room, — note) a husband was swimming, walking on his neck. The waves knocked out our house and destroyed the wall. The water stood for a week, even the traces are visible on the walls, — says the woman.

The family is promised about 1 million hryvnias as compensation, but it is not known when the family will be able to receive it.

— Every person will probably hate this war, the Russians who came and destroyed our lives and families. No one has a tomorrow now. But we hope that we will be paid for the house, as they said. Maybe we will rebuild someday. They promise a little more than 1 million hryvnias for compensation, something like that was charged to us. It is not yet known when these funds will be available, — she adds.

As you know, as of November, more than 20 million hryvnias have already been charged to the residents of the Snihurivka community for damage to real estate due to flooding. However, as Ivan Kukhta, the head of the MBA, said, these funds have not yet been credited to the local government.

We will remind, at dawn on June 6, it became known about the undermining of the Kakhovka HPP dam. In a matter of hours, villages and cities of Kherson region and Mykolaiv region were in the flooding zone. In particular, the water passed through 13 settlements of the Snihurivka community.

Already on June 9, it became known that the water rose by 6 meters. It took several weeks for the water to recede.

Within the community, 375 houses were destroyed due to flooding.
