Dnipro hydropower plant blown up by Russia in 2023

Kakhovka HPP is a hydroelectric power plant on the Dnipro in Kherson Oblast whose dam Russian troops blew up on the night of 6 June 2023. It caused one of the worst environmental disasters in modern Ukraine: villages in Mykolaiv Oblast such as Afanasiivka and Novovasylivka were flooded, and damage to the environment has been estimated at almost ₴78 billion. The Security Service of Ukraine charged Russian Colonel General Oleh Makarevych with ordering the dam to be blown up. Within three years a willow forest of about 65,000 hectares grew on the bed of the former reservoir, and Ukrhydroenergo has prepared a project to rebuild the dam.
