«It takes three years for the walls to dry out»: residents of flooded houses in the Mykolaiv region told why they cannot start repairs

Residents of more than 50 houses in the flooded village of Novovasylivka in the Mykolaiv region still cannot repair their homes. The walls of local houses could not be drained even a year after the tragedy of the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.

Liudmyla Menshova, a resident of Novovasylivka, who was affected by the flooding, told NikVesti about this.

According to Liudmyla Menshova, it takes about 3 years for the walls of the house to dry out. Only after that you can start repair work.

«I don't know when we will start, we need the walls to dry. In July, when volunteers stopped by, they dried our walls, because mushrooms were growing on our walls, first white, then black. «Look, it's not dry yet, they say it takes three years for it to dry,» said the woman.

Recently, residents of flooded houses received compensation from the state, but they cannot begin to repair their homes. Residents of Novovasylivka and neighboring Afanasiivka received the funds only a few weeks ago. Despite the fact that in December 2023, during a press conference, the head of Mykolayiv RMA Vitalii Kim said that by the end of the year some residents will receive compensation from the government for the purchase of new houses.

In the spring, the head of the Snihurivka military administration, Ivan Kukhta, explained that the money was not credited due to the irregularity of the compensation procedure itself, and after the Government made changes to the Procedure for using funds for payments on March 1, the situation should change.

Flooding of the Snihurivka community

At dawn on June 6, it became known about the undermining of the Kakhovka HPP dam. In a matter of hours, villages and cities of Kherson region and Mykolaiv region were in the flooding zone. In particular, the water passed through 13 settlements of the Snihurivka community.

In the Snihurivka region, the village of Afanasiivka was completely cut off by water. Two roads leading to the village, as well as most of the houses, were flooded after the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka HPP.

Already on June 9, it became known that the water rose by 6 meters. It took several weeks for the water to recede.

375 houses in the Snihurivka community were destroyed due to flooding.

In November 2023, it became known that more than 20 million hryvnias were charged to the residents of the Snihurivka community as compensation for damage to real estate due to flooding.
