Mykolaiv drivers were forbidden to park their vehicles outside specially arranged «pockets» on Nikolska Street.

The corresponding decision was made today, January 24, during the meeting of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council, writes NikVesti.

The reason for this decision was chaotic parking, in particular, on the carriageway of the road, on this street, said Oleh Kuksa, deputy head of the city hall's transport department.

«The movement of vehicles is limited, it is carried out in one lane of traffic, as the owners of vehicles chaotically install vehicles on the roadway. It is proposed to define traffic stops in the entry «pockets» parallel to the carriageway, and to prohibit stops outside the «pockets»,» the official said.

He also added that the management sent letters to the managers of the enterprises opposite to which the «pockets» were arranged to bring them into compliance, in accordance with the norms of the National Bank of Ukraine.

In the course of the discussion, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych clarified why this issue is being dealt with by the transport department, and not the police, to which Oleh Kuksa replied that the decision should be made by the executive committee.

It is worth noting that the administration did not specify which sections of the street are now restricted for parking.

The spokesman of the patrol police of the Mykolaiv Region, Vitalii Dushko, said in a comment to NikVesti that the law enforcement officers did not contact the administration with this problem, but added that traffic jams really often occur on this street.

He added that it is the owner of the plot who should make changes, but the project must be agreed with the law enforcement officers.

«I contacted the head of our UBDR, currently there is no approved project for this area, we cannot specify what kind of area it is. As far as I know, there were also complaints on this section that there were very heavy traffic jams on Nikolska. There is an owner of the street and road network of this particular section, and only he can make any changes. Pockets, signs, that is, it is decided by the owner. But the owner is developing a road safety project in this area and then coordinates it with the National Police unit, in this case, with our road safety department. They look, if everything is correct, the project is approved, if not, it is modified or canceled,» he said.

We will remind you that in November 2023, the city authorities announced that paid parking lots would be installed in Mykolaiv. Specific places and where exactly they will be arranged are not yet known, but there will be about 25 parking spots.
