Preventing the illegal export of archaeological values: Chernivtsi customs officials take action

Chernivtsi customs officials prevented the illegal export of archaeological values outside Ukraine.

This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.

«Today, February 3, a car driven by a citizen of Ukraine, who was on his way from Ukraine to Romania on private business, arrived at the customs control zone of the Porubne-Siret checkpoint. To pass customs control, the man chose the «green corridor» traffic lane, thus proving that he is not moving goods that are required to be declared,» the report said.

When the customs officials carried out the inspection, they found archeology items — elements of horse harness, elements of jewelry, equal-armed crosses, household items, elements of Byzantine glass.

According to the laws of Ukraine, the above items are prohibited for export outside the customs territory of Ukraine. 124 items of archeology were recovered.
