The situation with nuclear safety at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is deteriorating due to the impact of a drone that hit the road near the territory of the nuclear power plant.

This is stated on the website of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

It is noted that on August 17, a drone hit the road near the territory of the NPP.

«We see the escalation of threats to nuclear safety and the safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP. I remain extremely concerned and repeat my call for maximum restraint on all sides and for strict adherence to the five specific principles established to protect the station,» said the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi.

The IAEA notes that they were informed that the explosives allegedly carried by the drone detonated directly behind the security zone of the station. The collision site was located near the cooling water ponds and approximately 100 meters from the Dnipro power line — the only line providing power to the ZNPP.

Ukrainian official institutions, in particular Energoatom, have not yet commented on this situation.

It was previously reported that the experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) could not establish the exact cause of the fire at the cooling tower of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The fire, which was recorded on August 11, stopped on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
