Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant occupied by Russia

ZNPP, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, is a nuclear plant in Enerhodar, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, occupied by Russia. The plant depends on external power lines that are regularly damaged in the fighting: in June 2026 it suffered its 19th blackout since the start of the full-scale war, and in September 2026 Ukrainian specialists restored external power after almost three weeks on generators. Local ceasefires involving the IAEA have been declared several times so that the lines near the plant could be repaired.

According to Ukraine's Defence Forces, Russian troops have placed military equipment at the plant and launch drones from its territory, and in September 2026 Energoatom warned that safety at ZNPP was in a critical state. The plant's future is part of peace talks: the US has proposed splitting its management between Ukraine, the US and Russia, while Ukraine is ready to share control only with the US.

MykVisti follows the blackouts, nuclear safety at the plant and the talks about its future.
