The European Union has condemned Russian strikes on civilian vessels carrying Ukrainian grain and called for pressure on the Russian Federation to stop these attacks.
This was stated by EU spokesman Peter Stano, writes European Truth.
He reminded that in recent days the Russian Federation has increased its attacks on civilian vessels transporting Ukrainian grain in the Black Sea.
Stano listed that two ships were hit by ballistic missiles, one from Panama, the other from Palau, a few days ago a ship from St. Kitts and Nevis was attacked, last month Russia bombed a ship with grain for Egypt, and before that a ship from Turkey.
«These are all countries that Putin calls friendly.... All these actions are a flagrant violation of international law and must be stopped immediately. This proves that Russia is determined to continue making food its weapon, putting at risk millions of people not in Ukraine or Europe — but vulnerable people in Asia and Africa. And this is Putin's answer to those who say that peace with Putin is possible,» the EU spokesman emphasized.
The European Union calls on all countries of the world to condemn Russian attacks on freedom of navigation and global food security.
We will remind that on the night of October 6, Russian troops attacked Odesa with ballistic missiles. As a result of the attack, a civilian cargo ship was damaged.
On October 7, the Russians again attacked Odesa with ballistic missiles. The enemy hit a Palau-flagged civilian vessel. A 60-year-old Ukrainian was killed, five other foreign citizens were injured.
In the evening of October 9, the Russian army attacked the Odesa region with ballistic missiles. The port infrastructure became the target of the enemy again. The enemy hit a civilian container ship under the flag of Panama.
