The United Nations is concerned about Russia's use of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
This was stated by the official representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric, reports Le Monde.
He emphasized that Russia's use of a new missile is a «disturbing event,» stressing that «all this is going in the wrong direction.»
Stéphane Dujarric called on the parties to de-escalate the conflict and noted that further escalation would only increase the suffering of civilians.
We will remind that on the morning of November 21, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with intercontinental ballistic, aeroballistic and cruise missiles. Dnipro came under Russian fire. It is noted that the intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation, the X-47M2 «Kinzhal» aeroballistic missile from the Tambov region, and the X-101 cruise missiles from the Volgograd region.
Subsequently, Vladimir Putin stated that Russia had struck the city of Dnipro with a medium-range Oreshnik ballistic missile equipped with a non-nuclear hypersonic variant. According to him, this strike was allegedly a response to strikes by American and British weapons on the territory of Russia.
The Russian president also added that they «have the right to strike» military facilities of countries that allow their weapons to be used for attacks on the Russian Federation.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the statements of Russian President Volodymyr Putin about Ukraine's alleged «new step» in the war due to the use of long-range weapons. He emphasized that Ukraine has every right to use these weapons for defense, guided by the norms of international law.
