More than a day without electricity: how the Points of Invincibility work in Mykolaiv

Due to the lack of electricity for more than a day in Mykolaiv, the number of visitors to the «Points of Invincibility» is increasing. People come to charge their devices, warm up and work, because there are interruptions with mobile communication and the Internet in the city.

NikVesti journalists visited one of the «Points of Invincibility» deployed by rescuers of the State Emergency Service to find out how it works and what services are available to city residents.

«We had no light at Teatralna since six in the morning on November 28. I didn't use the unbreakable points yesterday because I have a charging station, but it only lasted for one day. This morning I already started looking for a place to recharge. I learned about this point from my brother, he is a firefighter, I know that they deploy such points,» said one of the visitors, Anastasiia.

The woman said that at first she was looking for the nearest point, but it turned out to be closed.

«I found the addresses of the points in the telegram channel of the mayor. The closest point was on Bohoiavlenskyi Avenue, 24/1. They said that you can collect water there even without light. We came, but nothing was working there. We were told that yesterday they tried to at least turn on the water, but the generator is not working,» added Anastasia.

Now she has been at the point since 8:40 and says that there are more and more people. According to her, not everyone has enough sockets for charging devices.

«It is comfortable here, warm, it does not draft anywhere. The only thing missing are sockets. But we are already experienced, we take extension cords with us. In the morning there were not many people, but after nine there were more of them,» the woman said.

Kyrylo Ponomariov, lieutenant of the civil protection service, head of the fire department guard, said that currently there are about 30 people in the «Point of Invincibility», but they are ready to accept more.

«Yesterday we mostly carried out preparatory work: we set up the tent, brought furniture, extension cords. Now people can warm up, charge gadgets, use the Internet through Starlink, drink tea or coffee. Today, the largest number of people during these two days is about 30 people. In the evening, there was even more excitement, because everyone's devices began to discharge,» said the rescuer.

According to Kyrylo Ponomariov, the point works around the clock, even despite the curfew.

«We are currently working around the clock. The schedule may change, but for now we are working even during the curfew,» he added.

The state of energy on November 29

As of 8 a.m., 70% of Mykolaiv Oblast, including Mykolaiv, was without power.

The head of Mykolayiv RMA Vitalii Kim said that energy experts found a place where the power grid was cut off as a result of Russian attacks. Its restoration and supply of light will take about two hours. In particular, two additional buses will run in Mykolaiv along route #79 and one along extended route №91.

Earlier, Ukrenergo reported that on November 29 new electricity supply restriction schedules will be in effect in Ukraine.

Shelling of Ukraine on November 28

On Thursday morning, November 28, Russian troops attacked Ukraine with missiles and attack drones. Explosions rang out in various cities.

According to rescuers, significant damage was recorded in 14 regions due to shelling. More than 320 rescuers of the State Emergency Service with the support of more than 80 pieces of equipment are working to eliminate the consequences.

Thus, as a result of an enemy rocket attack in Odesa district, three people were injured, among them a 16-year-old boy.

And in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, about 300,000 consumers were left without electricity. Schedules of emergency shutdowns and power restrictions were introduced in the region.

Also, 515,000 subscribers were left without electricity due to shelling in Lviv region. The local authorities have warned about tight electricity supply schedules.

Mykolaiv Oblast also suffered from shelling

In connection with the introduction of emergency power cuts, trolleybuses and trams will not run in Mykolaiv. Mykolaivpastrans released an additional number of buses №91.

In addition, emergency workers reported disruptions on special lines «101» and «112» in the region.

First Deputy Mayor Vitalii Lukov said that Mykolaiv is currently supplied with water and there are no problems with heat. Also, in the city and region, warning systems work exclusively in manual mode and where generators are available.

In addition, Mykolaiv schools may go on early vacation due to problems with the lack of electricity.

Around the city, during power outages, some of the purified water dispensing points will operate in emergency mode.
