Environmental damage to Kherson region reserves exceeded ₴225 billion

The war caused significant damage to the nature reserve fund of Kherson region. According to the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southern District, the total amount of damage exceeds UAH 225 billion.

This was reported by the National Nature Park «Nyzhniodniprovskyi».

It is stated that the hostilities lead to the destruction of natural ecosystems, the death of flora and fauna, as well as damage to protected areas that are important for the conservation of biodiversity.

«As of 1 February 2025, the total amount of damage caused to the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund of Kherson region exceeds 225 billion hryvnias. The total amount of damage caused to Ukraine's environment as a result of Russian aggression exceeds 70 billion hryvnias. More than 6,500 environmental crimes have been recorded», the report says.

The biggest losses were suffered by:

  • Land resources: over 27.9 billion US dollars.
  • Atmospheric air: over 17.7 billion US dollars.
  • Forestry suffered losses of almost 26 billion US dollars.

Earlier it was reported that the spill of vegetable oil into the soil and water area of the Bug estuary in Mykolaiv region caused environmental damage worth 45 million hryvnias.
