Kherson Oblast is a region in southern Ukraine. It borders Mykolaiv Oblast to the northwest, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to the north, Zaporizhzhia Oblast to the east and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to the south. The oblast was formed on 30 March 1944. The left bank of the Dnipro in Kherson Oblast, including Oleshky, is under temporary Russian occupation. As of October 2026, 2,448 civilians, among them 47 children, have been killed in the region since the full-scale invasion began.
