Six communities in the Mykolaiv region are to receive specialised school buses. Two of them are in Mykolaiv. They are to be transferred to the communal ownership of the communities. The total cost of the buses amounted to almost 27 million hryvnias.
Members of the Mykolaiv Regional Council’s Committee on Regional Development, Planning, Budget, Finance and Investment gave their approval on 3 April, according to NikVesti.
Alla Velikhovska, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, explained that 19 specialised school buses were purchased last year: half of the funding came from the state budget, and half from the communities’ budgets. Twelve buses have already been allocated. A further seven were transferred to the communities for storage in December 2025.
«In order for them (the local authorities, — note) to be able to use them to transport pupils, a decision is needed today at the session to transfer the buses from regional to municipal ownership,» noted Alla Velikhovska.
The draft resolution states that the Sukhyi Yelanets and Chornomorka village councils, as well as the Bereznehuvate, Yelanets and Kryve Ozero settlement councils, will each receive one bus, whilst the Mykolaiv City Council will receive two buses. The buses are equipped with two spaces for pupils with reduced mobility.
The cost of one bus is 3,899,994 hryvnias; the seven buses cost 27,299,958 hryvnias.
Members of the committee supported the transfer of the buses. The final decision is to be adopted at a session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council.
It was previously reported that in 2025, the Mykolaiv region will be allocated 19.7 million hryvnias in subsidies from the state budget for the purchase of school buses. The buses were to be specially equipped to transport people with reduced mobility, with space for carers and wheelchair spaces.
