Makeshift structures made of tires, bottles and rebar appear on the beach in Namyv — residents call for inspection

On the beach in the Namyv neighbourhood of Mykolaiv, a man is constructing structures resembling breakwaters out of car tyres, plastic bottles, sandbags, stones and metal rebar. A local resident believes they could be dangerous for holidaymakers and has asked the city authorities to inspect the area.

Eleonora Starolinska wrote about this in the Contact Centre group on the Mykolaiv City Council’s page.

The issue concerns a section of the beach opposite the building at 16a Lazurna Street. The woman pointed out that exposed metal parts and other objects on the beach could pose a danger to people, particularly children. She is also concerned about the use of household and building materials right by the water’s edge.

«These structures look untidy and may pose a danger to holidaymakers, especially children. The presence of exposed reinforcing bars, metal, stones, car tyres and other foreign objects in the beach area could lead to people being injured,» wrote Eleonora Starolinska.

She is asking the city authorities to inspect the area, assess the safety of the structures and determine whether permits were obtained for their construction. If no such permits exist, the structures should be dismantled and the materials removed.

In the comments on the post, other residents also expressed concern about the state of the beach. In particular, one user drew attention to the potential harm to the river.

Meanwhile, another resident noted that previously, during water supply issues, people had used stones and tyres to wade into the water and collect it in buckets.
