The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense Kyrylo Budanov predicts that the offensive of the Russian army in the Kharkiv region will continue for several more days, after which a new attack will begin in the direction of the Sumy region.
He told The New York Times about it.
Citing Kirill Budanov, the publication notes that the Ukrainian military has faced a «critical» situation in the northeast of the country, facing a shortage of troops as it tries to repel a Russian offensive that has been ongoing for several days.
«The situation is on the brink,» said General Kyrylo Budanov, «with every hour the situation is getting closer to critical.»
According to him, Russian attacks in the northeast are aimed at depleting Ukraine's military reserves and distracting troops from hostilities elsewhere.
«All our forces are either here or in Chasiv Yar,» he stated.
Kyrylo Budanov predicts that Ukrainian troops will be able to strengthen their positions and stabilize the front within the next few days. But he expects that Russian troops will launch a new attack further north of Kharkiv, in the Sumy region.
We will remind that on May 13, in the Sumy region, the evacuation of people from the cities of Bilopillia and Vorozhba was announced.
We will also remind you that on Saturday afternoon, May 11, the Russian army struck the infrastructure of the suburbs of Sumy. A woman died as a result of the shelling.
