head of the Office of the President of Ukraine

Kyrylo Budanov is a Ukrainian military officer and lieutenant general who has headed the Office of the President of Ukraine since January 2026. Before that he led the Defence Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate; in 2024 Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly denied rumours that he would be dismissed from that post. In June 2026 Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, said that cooperation with the President’s Office had improved since Budanov took over. In 2025 Poland awarded Budanov the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, and in June 2026 he turned the award down.

MykVisti reports Budanov’s statements on talks with Russia and prisoner swaps, mobilisation, Telegram and Ukraine’s EU accession, as well as his forecasts from his years in intelligence.
